Wingham Swimming Club’s Lauren Oberg was named in Swimming North Coast’s achiever tourers squad that will take part in a development camp in Sydney in October.
She will join fellow squad members for a four day camp at Sydney Olympic Park that will coincide with Swimming NSW’s achiever squad meet.
Lauren’s selection follows a successful stint in the Swimming North Coast junior establishment squad development day at South Grafton earlier this year.
“They did squad drills and a mini carnival,” Lauren’s mum Lee said.
It’s been quite the 12 months for Lauren.
She competed at the 2017 Swimming North Coast Long Course Championships at Coffs Harbour.
In January, Lauren took part in a Swimming NSW junior clinic.
The clinic was run by Alicia Coutts and Matt Abood and gave her the opportunity to meet an array of Olympians such as Port Macquarie’s James Magnussen.
She then joined the Swimming North Coast junior establishment squad.
In the meantime, Lauren will continue to take part in carnivals and meets.
She also trains four times a week in Wingham and Taree.
“I enjoy practicing at home as well,” Lauren said.
Lauren is proficient in all swimming styles but named breaststroke as her favourite.
When asked about what drives her to compete, Lauren only needed one response.
“Swimming is my passion,” Lauren said.
She thanked her coach Bec for helping with her development.
Lauren’s also a keen netballer, where she turns out each week for Wingham Wildgirls.
