This followed a visa problem that saw English five-eighth Danny Price on a plane home earlier in the week. Wingham found out last Monday that Price had to head back to England and Russell asked Green, who lives in the Newcastle area, if he could deputise. Green signed with the Tigers before the June 30 deadline, but hadn't played a match until Saturday.
He trained with the side the Thursday night before the semi-final
Green played soundly enough, setting up Wingham's last try to Matt Bridge when he produced one of his trademark delayed passes. However, Wingham lost the match 32-12.
Group Three chief executive Barrie Smith confirmed Green was clear to play as he signed before June 30.
Mick Sullivan takes over as Wingham’s captain-coach next year. Sullivan, a club junior, has enjoyed enormous success as a player coach with Orange CYMS in the Group 10 competition.
