Mount George’s esteemed fire captain, Ian Barbour called recently as he had just realised how close the October long weekend is getting and that the brigade had not yet discussed plans for the annual weekend at Everingham’s farm music festival.

The brigade mans the barbecue day and night.
A meeting will be held at the fire station on Tuesday, August 21 at 7pm to work out who is doing what. We hope the meeting will finish early as it could be a cold night and we don’t want our workers catching cold and not be able to do their bit to get things up and running for the long weekend. Also we don’t have as many members as we used to so I guess we’ll all have more for each of us to do.
Remember you can have a ringside seat to watch the rugby league on Luke Everingham’s big screen again this year. It is a great time to get together with people you seldom see as they come from many places to attend the music festival and all look forward to renewing acquaintances.
Billy cart derby
That great annual event, the Billy Cart Derby is on this Sunday.
I hope all the carts are ready. I know that one just up the road from my place is, as I had a repair job to be done on my car and my mechanic, who moonlights as my grandson, was working on a billy cart and couldn’t fix my car the day I planned. A case of “Get your priorities right, Nan!”
I also know of a family who has decided the derby is important enough to travel all the way from Queensland to attend. If they come from that far afield I guess there will be an entry by one of them at least.
I hope we have a trouble and accident free day for the fun and excitement of the races and all the other activities planned for the day.
I also hope all the entrants have been practising hard and are going to show us some classy driving on the day.
It is another event which has had to be planned well in advance so it goes smoothly.
I just remembered, didn’t a girl take out the school championhip last year boys?
