This is great news for anglers going into the weekend.
Huge schools of whitebait have been gathering in the mouth of the Manning and then moving up river.
There have been thousands of birds feeding on these schools of fish.
When not eating, the birds sit on the water and appear like a white blanket when the swell lifts them up.
I have heard reports of whitebait in the Scott’s Creek and also further up the river towards Taree.
Fishing near the schools of bait with a lure would get a response from a tailor or a flathead.
Meanwhile more positive news as Harrington and Crowdy beaches are producing tailor to 1kg and salmon up to 3kgs.
Some good catches of tailor have been made near Abbey’s Creek.
Outside anglers have taken snapper from the northern and southern grounds and flathead on the drift.
