The Dirty Dog Tail Run is an adventurous event for dog-lovers and their hounds, held each August in the Coopernook State Forest. This year two different courses will be offered - an 8.5km run, and a shorter 4km course - both offering interesting forest smells, muddy mud spots and obstacles to look out for.
But much more than a run in the park, hounds and humans will enjoy a host of fun and games at the end, including a delicious barbecue, pooch smooch booth, dog beer drinking competition, and new this year, the "Walk of Terror" which will test the willpower of the strongest willed pets.
The brainchild of dog-lover Danielle Donnelly, the Dirty Dog Tail Run has been designed specifically for pet-owners wanting to be adventurous with their dogs in a pet-friendly environment.
"Every detail of the event has been created from the perspective of what a dog would enjoy, from the course which runs through the forest to the fun games and agility areas that are a highlight of the event," Danielle explained.
Partnering with NSW State Forests to host the event at Coopernook, "we've been able to educate people on State Forests as dog friendly spaces, which most people don't know," she added. "It means dog owners and their pooches will get out more often to enjoy local forests and find their own adventure trails outside of the event."
Now in its third year, August 19 event has continued to grow in popularity, so much that even staff members from State Forests come along.
The event is closely associated with Sweet Pea Animal Rescue and money raised from entry fees on the day will go towards the work of their volunteers in rehabilitation and rehoming an incredible 90 animals each year, with that number growing.
"The Dirty Dog Tail Run offers something for every dog owner, from the exhilaration of completing the course, to the interactive games and special treats", Danielle added. "But most of all it's about celebrating the bond between dogs and their owners, and giving them the chance to enjoy a great day out together".
