Members of the Tinonee Friendship Group met at the Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall last Wednesday, July 4, for a cuppa and chat before they car pooled for their latest outing to Hallidays Point.
The group had a good look around before enjoying a delicious and relaxed lunch at the Hallidays Point Tavern.
Membership is open to anyone over 55 years. They meet every first Wednesday of the month at the hall and often enjoy outings to places of local interest. For more information call Judy Cluss on 6553 1450.
Tinonee Public School
Term 1 has ended and all are now enjoying their holidays and a well earned break.
The big news is Ms Karen Austin has been appointed to the school as the new principal taking on the role from Mrs Joanne Elliott who has been relieving principal.
Everyone is reminded the school is out of bounds during the holidays. Anyone found on the grounds will be prosecuted.
It is disappointing to learn that the weekend of 29/30th June the school was the target of vandalism. Should we see anything suspicious we must report it immediately to the authorities.
Students from the school had a fantastic day at Wingham High School with a huge variety of activities celebrating NAIDOC Week. They also enjoyed special visitors from Harrington Public School on Thursday.
Canteen manager Michelle thanks everyone for their efforts in the canteen during Term 1 but, as always, would love to hear from new volunteers. The canteen menu exceeds the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy requirements of 75 per cent thanks to all Michelle’s hard work – congratulations.
Passing of Peter John ‘Banjo’ Burke
John and I joined family, relatives and friends at the funeral of John’s distant relative Peter Burke, on July 5. The Manning Great Lakes Memorial Chapel was overflowing as Jenny Medland conducted the service.
Eulogies were given by his nephews Craig Burke and David Dunn, and a poem was read by his daughter Donna. Peter’s own written and recorded song Remember Me Darling accompanied a pictorial presentation on his life, which brought many of those in attendance to tears.
Peter was the son of Thomas and Marjorie Burke of Cundle Flat and was born July 5, 1950. He would have celebrated his 68th birthday the day of his funeral. He was from a large family who are left to mourn, including his wife Marie.
Mr Bob Coombes of Taree RSL Sub-branch and Club Taree delivered the RSL tribute. Fellow members formed a guard of honour at the end of the service.
Rest in Peace Peter, you will be missed by many.
