He’s delighted with his recent win and admits there was a lot more competition than when he was first crowned national champion in 2016.
Although Ivan was up against some of the same competitors this year, the two years in between has made a big difference.
“They’ve all got much better!” he laughs.
But then so has Ivan.
In August 2016 Ivan attended a prestigious gymnastics school at Ollerup in Denmark for 12 months after being awarded a scholarship.
The experience was unforgettable and Ivan not only improved his tumbling skills, first learnt at Taree’s PCYC, he also developed an attraction to colder climates.
The ex Wingham High School student recently moved to the Victorian Alps to work the snow season in Mount Hotham with his middle brother Adam.
Ivan hopes to get as much snow boarding under his belt as possible.
His first experience with snowboarding was in Norway as part of a week’s excursion with the Ollerup school.
But Ivan has no plans to try his hand at competitive boarding.
“It’s more just fun and games,” he said.
When he returns from Mount Hotham, Ivan plans to move back to Europe and travel.
He’ll start in Denmark and pick up some gymnastics coaching along the way while working towards entering the international stream.
His ultimate goal remains the same as it did in 2016.
To win a world title.
