Twenty-one-year-old Jonty Hemmingway has many fond memories of Wingham Beef Week.

In 2009 the Wingham High School student joined the school’s Ag team and made her Beef Week debut. Her tiny stature didn't stop her leading huge bulls around the show ring and each year Jonty honed her cattle showing skills and looked forward to returning to Beef Week each May.

“It’s probably the best educational show you can go to,” she said.

She cites the networking opportunities and the chance to visit the abattoir as highlights.

Jonty’s passion for the meat industry was evident early on and as she soaked up all she could about the industry – which would ultimately become her future - Jonty picked up many awards along the way.

In 2014 she was on the team which took out the coveted title of Champion Team for beef/primal judging.

Individually Jonty cleaned up at Beef Week with ribbons and titles including Champion Individual for both beef carcase/primal judging and primal and retail ID classes.

She was also in the winning teams for both classes and received Champion Individual in the beef appreciation.

Jonty will be working behind the scenes at the Wingham processing facility to ensure things run smoothly for the 2018 Wingham Beef Week students.

Jonty is also on the Beef Week committee and is assistant secretary.
