He began by congratulating all competitors in the 2018 eisteddfod. “May your efforts be acknowledged by your peers and may you receive a constructive response from our adjudicators.
“Your courage and commitment are applauded by Taree and District Eisteddfod Society and we are privileged to program this event for your participation.
“We in the committee trust you will be sufficiently encouraged this year to keep coming back year after year and continue to grow your talent which we salute.
“Remember to sincerely thank your teachers and families and all involved in your road to this wonderful Manning Entertainment Centre stage.”
He also made special mention of the sponsors, volunteers, committee and all involved in putting the eisteddfod on each year who do so because “we want you to grow in confidence to be the best you can be.”
The vocal section started on Tuesday afternoon, April 24 and after a break for Anzac Day, will continue to the Saturday, April 28 with morning, afternoon and evening sessions, all on the Manning Entertainment Centre stage.
The piano section runs from May 4 to 6, ahead of the largest category, dance which starts on May 8 for novice and groups, and May 19 for district and open categories.
One of the highlights of the dance section is the groups weekend, which starts on Friday evening, May 11 at 6.30 and continues on the Saturday and Sunday. Dancers from across the Mid North Coast, the Hunter and Port Stephens travel to Taree to compete and you can expect to be dazzled by the talent.
The dance category wraps up on May 27 and speech and drama entrants take the stage for the next six days. They are followed on June 4 by the instrumental/electric section and on June 13 by choirs.
The grand concert on Saturday, June 16 at the entertainment centre will feature selected winning performances.
