Optus will install a new mobile base station at Firefly, south of Krambach in the coming months thanks to the Federal Coalition Government’s $220 million Mobile Black Spot Program.

Federal Member for Lyne David Gillespie said the new mobile phone tower add to the growing list of additional towers to be installed in the Lyne electorate as part of the ongoing rollout of communications infrastructure.
Optus has already installed a tower at Mount Douglas, east of Clarence Town with plans to install new macro-base station to power a new mobile phone tower in the Mount Seaview area and Telstra will install a similar sized tower to service the Gresford area
“The new towers at both Mount Seaview and Gresford towers will not only service local residents around Mount Seaview and Gresford, but also the many motorists who use the Oxley Highway west of Wauchope and producers and tourists who travel up to the Barrington Tops north of Gresford,” Dr Gillespie said.
106 priority locations across Australia will benefit from improved mobile phone coverage. Optus, Telstra and Vodafone will build 102 new base stations under the Priority Location round. In addition, the carriers have commercial plans for new base stations that will further address mobile black spot issues in a number of the identified locations.
“In addition to the sites the telcos are already installing towers, the Coalition’s Mobile Black Spot program is already delivering new or improved coverage to sites across Comboyne, Elands, Paterson, Wherrol Flat, Byabarra-Bagnoo Road and Girvan.”
Construction of the new mobile phone towers will get underway soon.
The Coalition Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program is improving mobile coverage across Australia including along major regional transport routes, in small communities and at identified priority locations. More than 456 locations across Australia have already received new or improved coverage through rounds 1 and 2 of the program.
The base station rollout schedules for all three rounds of the program will be available on the Telstra, Optus and Vodafone websites.
