Tessa Kerbel, a teacher at North Coast TAFE, is pictured at the Tuncurry campus in a dress made and photographed by student Anne Grant for a course in wearable objects.
The dress was designed in response to a brief for a hypothetical fashion show.
“I challenged students to design a wearable object from upcycled materials, for a show to raise awareness and encourage eco-responsibility,” Tess said.
“The project had to be made of at least 60 per cent recycled materials, and the processes used environmentally-friendly and ethical.
“Anne’s design was so fabulous I had to put it on. The skirt is made from finely-cut layers of plastic bags, which she tipped, here and there, with silver.
“The dress is accompanied by a headpiece inspired by Anne’s travel through the Cook Islands, where exquisitely woven floral coronets are worn and presented to guests by local women.”

Tess also works as a freelance writer, editor and artist out of her place in Wingham.
Her clients include MidCoast Council and Standards Australia.
She specialises in plain English and writing with integrity and heart.
Tess volunteers at the Manning Regional Art Gallery and writes Happenings, a blog telling the stories of exhibiting artists.
Her main mission is Random Acts of Art, a placemaking project that puts art in unexpected places, with the aim of taking art to new audiences and inspiring joy.
The project was inspired by the placemaking activities of the Wingham Chamber of Commerce and the winter solstice lantern walk of the local Manning Valley Turtle Conservation Group.
Tess is working with local community members to make it happen.
The day will include music by local shop owner Belinda Messer of Not a Café, a fibre art display, featuring Sam Everett of gallery/studio space
A Little to the Left and the Manning Fibre Artists, and the light painting of local heritage buildings by professional photographer Mark Anning.
Random Acts is an initiative of the Manning Valley Creative Collective and part of the Manning Valley Winter Festival.
It’s also set to star the stilt-walkers from local circus group, Circartus, which Tess is a member of herself—an aerialist, “if a new and relatively clumsy one,” she says.
Tess escaped the city three years ago and fell in love with Wingham.
She has 15 years’ experience in the publishing industry.
She’s written and edited for titles like Country Home Ideas and Modern Home, and her poems, stories and illustrations have been published sporadically in journals like Harvest, Blue Dog and Voiceworks.
Random Acts is set for June 23, 2018.
