From humble beginnings Bonnie Wingham has grown into one of Australia's premier Scottish themed events with clan members and enthusiastic Scots coming from all corners of the globe to attend.
The week long festival kicks off on Sunday May 27 with a Scottish concert followed by a popular genealogy fair later in the week.
For those with strong Celtic roots the festival is an opportunity to mix with other Scots and a great excuse to wear a kilt!
For bagpipe lovers, there’s nowhere else like it. Mass pipe bands are a highlight of the Highland Games Day, held in Wingham’s Central Park on Saturday June 2.
This is the big day for everyone to come together and for visitors to enjoy a free event that’s quite unlike anything else around.
The park will be full of Scottish themed markets and clan stalls as well as Highland dancing and medieval fighting displays. A street parade with a very Scottish flavour kicks off at 9.30am and there’s also tug-o-war, caber toss and a children’s kilted dash. Pet lovers are encouraged to dress up their dogs in Scottish themed outfits for the best dressed dog competition.
This year’s clan of honour is Clan MacLennan.
