I am pleased to say chivalry is alive and well in this day and age, although we seldom encounter it.
I know personally, as I witnessed it first hand last Thursday when I drove over the culvert at Devil’s Elbow.
Luckily I was not really injured, but I believe my poor little Echo didn’t fare so well.
I’m more than half expecting it to be written off. I’ve not seen it yet.
I was able to stand up and tried to get out through the driver’s side door and window, but age and old legs wouldn’t let me.
So, as the car was out of sight down on the creek bed, I just stood and waved to attract the attention of passing drivers.
Eventually, the first good Samaritan, in a truck, saw me and stopped.
Wow, I even knew him, which was a comfort. Not long after, a second vehicle stopped. And I knew the two men therein as well.
Then, a third vehicle stopped, with a gentleman, his wife and two children on board.
They managed to get me out of the car and called for help. Three ambos arrived, and they all managed, through a team effort, to get me back up the bank. Lastly, the long arm of the law arrived in the form of an officer I also knew.
So I was well cared for after the incident. I’ve not felt so like a maiden in distress for many years. Many thanks to all who helped me. If not for you, I would probably still be there losing all my excess weight, but probably a little hungry by now. I can’t thank you enough.
I’ve no car as yet to drive and can’t walk ver far, so I do not have much to report this week as you can guess. Actually, I am going stir crazy looking at television and the walls of my house.
But it should be over soon, and I’ll be out and about. I never thought I would say ‘thank heavens for the beginning of the footy season’, but watching them pound each other into the turf relieves my tension a little.
Hopefully more news next week.
