Show society president, Ian Murray, couldn’t be more thrilled with the incredible efforts of all the volunteers, members and event stewards who assisted in making the show such a success.
“We know that our gate numbers are well up on our last show that was held in 2016, with many of the sections achieving terrific results, including an increase in entries in poultry, wood chopping and the beef cattle section,” Ian said.
The crowds were treated to a full weekend of events planned for all the family.
The Wingham Pony Club Funtastic Gymkhana on Friday and the show jumping in the main arena were enjoyed by riders of all ages.
Campdrafting entry placements filled quickly, and the popular exhibits in the hall and the poultry sections both had a great response.
The action packed Friday, Saturday and Sunday program gave the show society the results they were hoping to achieve.
New events this year included the Saturday night bullride, the junior rodeo and the junior rodeo training camp, all coordinated by the team from BlueMoon Bullriding.
The demolition derby on Saturday afternoon and the fireworks spectacular saw the main ring come to life with families filling all vantage points for a view of the action.
On Sunday the campdraft reportedly encouraged a strong crowd following and the championship dog show was a also declared a great success.
“A big thank you to all our volunteers, section stewards, sponsors, community groups, members and the community for helping us make the 2018 show a success,” said Ian.
“I want to thank and make a special mention of the incredible commitment that our show secretary Raelene Marshall made over the past 12 months, to ensure the organisation and smooth coordination of events.
“Thank you also to the ladies in the office, Susan Harris and Kim Sweeney, who were great support all weekend.”
The Wingham Show Society has been inundated with positive feedback from showgoers since the weekend.
Kiosk coordinator, Coleen Carle, made mention of the wonderful effort of her “brilliant team of volunteers who went above and beyond the call of duty, staying on as the crowds kept coming all weekend”.
Plans are already underway to make the 2019 Wingham Show just as successful.
