The nine-year-old Wingham swimmer attended the clinic run by Swimming NSW at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) on January 21.
The clinic was led by Australian Olympic Swim Team members Alicia Coutts and Matt Abood.
It was a dream come true for Lauren.
The pint-sized swimmer trains four times a week with both the Taree squad and Wingham Swimming Club.
She took part in 12 carnivals last year and competed in Kempsey last weekend.
“I love swimming,” the Wingham Brush Public School student happily tells.
“She’s a tryer,” said mum Lee Oberg.
“We had to limit the number of carnivals she would attend because she’d go to every one in the country!”
With big goals to one day swim for Australia and to make it to the Olympics, the clinic in Sydney was a great opportunity for Lauren to meet some of her swimming idols.
After being put through her paces and doing “lots of tricky things” in the clinic, Lauren was lucky enough to be given a personal behind the scenes tour at SOPAC.
She met many more Olympians and some current members of the Australian Dolphins Swim Team.
“It was fun,” she said.
Lauren has been swimming since she was a baby, joining the baby classes at Taree Aquatic Leisure Centre at just six months old.
Two years ago she joined the Wingham Swimming Club which she attends each Wednesday.
“It is such a lovely club,” said Lee.
“They don’t put any pressure on the kids. It’s really lovely for them.”
After her tour of SOPAC, Lauren stayed to watch the finals of the SNSW State Open Championships.
