United brought to an end Wingham’s five match winning streak in no uncertain terms, dismissing them for their lowest total against them of just 85 at the ground, and claiming victory three wickets down.
Zac Sheather starred for United by claiming 4/12 off eight overs before top scoring with 32 for the victors as United took just 20 overs to reel in Wingham’s tally.
After electing to bat, and with the late inclusion of Michael Rees boosting confidence, Wingham could not have had a worse start as Rees was out for a golden duck, LBW to a decision even the bowler did not appeal for.
Brother David went the same way for seven, then Ben Cole squeezed a ball to point before he got off the mark, meaning Wingham was three for 11. Brock Hynes struck a boundary and was then bowled, leaving Wingham 4/21 after six overs.
Brad Staff took half an hour to get off the mark as he and Ben Scowen consolidated by adding 36 before Scowen became Sheather’s first wicket with an innings high of 30.
Staff followed soon after for nine, then Stinson (five) and Hayden Essery (nil) on the same score. Only Matt Essery showed resistance with 14 not out as McTaggart (three) and Allwood (one) rounded out scoring.
All the United bowlers bowled excellent line and length on the grassy wicket, with part-timer Sheather starring.
Jordi Gilfillan (3/23) took vital wickets whilst Daniel Stone (1/20) and Jackson Witts (1/19) were again miserly.
United captain Ricky Campbell (12) and Sheather added 21 for the first wicket before Campbell was bowled by Josh McTaggart.
Murray McCartney, fresh from 60 the previous day, carried the total to 57 before he fell to Dave Rees for 12.
The third wicket was that of Sheather, run out for 32 at the non-strikers end with 17 to get. Tom Burley (13x) and Liam Simpson (9x) saw United home without further loss.
Second Grade
Second Grade remain in second place despite suffering an agonizing one wicket loss to United at Rec 3.
Wingham posted 159 and United, after being 1/110, fell over the line off the second last ball nine down.
Dennis Smith top scored for Wingham with 49 whilst Tim Bridge made 30.
Rhyce Kliendienst starred with ball in hand, claiming five wickets.
Third Grade
Beau Reed starred with 68 for Thirds at Cedar Party as he and Scott Bishop (30) both made personal bests when adding 100 for the seventh wicket against Old Bar Red.
The pair came together at 6/65 to rescue their team, eventually setting 9/225.
Although not a club record (141 – M Shultz and M Whitlam), no less valuable in securing victory.
Dave Abbott was unbeaten on four, his highest score ever, and remains in line for the most improved award (or Milo cricket).
Reed claimed four early wickets before Clancy Johnston cleaned up the Old Bar innings with a maiden five for (5/19), the Bar reaching 95 in reply.
