Pam Muxlow, columnist for Tinonee Topics
How long have you been writing your column and how did you first get ‘recruited’?
I have been writing ‘TINONEE TOPICS’ since September 1988 – started off with the various Bi-Centenary Celebrations in and around Tinonee.
I was recruited by the late Jan Dyson who had resumed the column for about three years but then she opened her Tinonee Crafts and Flowers business and found that she didn’t have time to be able to do both.
What do you enjoy the most about being a correspondent?
I enjoy helping the local organizations in promoting their events and spreading the news of our area.
How do you gather your information to write the column?
I gather the information from the various organizations that I belong to and also from the Tinonee Public School newsletter and I guess ‘just keeping my ear to the ground’.
What do you like the best about the Wingham Chronicle?
I think the ‘Wingham Chronicle’ has tried to remain a friendly and newsy paper in the now very technical media world and they try to include photos of people, events and places.
Tell us a little about yourself...
A little about myself, where do I start?
Born May 1947, grew up and did my school at Nabiac. First job was at Beaurepaires Tyre Service when it was on the corner of Victoria and Commerce Streets, Taree starting 17th December 1972 after completing a day secretarial course at the old technical college.
Worked ‘till March 1969 when I took off overseas to England to travel and see the world.
Returned home October 1971 and then began work for State Emergency Services in the office which was situated above Hooke Solicitors in Victoria Street.
Met John Muxlow of Wingham at a Wingham RSL Club Saturday dance and we were married 9th February 1974. Have two children, Fiona aged 40 and Andrew aged 38. Andrew and wife Sharona married 2000 and have our two grandchildren Keala and Korben.
Am involved with Tinonee Historical Society, Tinonee & District Red Cross, St Luke’s Anglican Church, Tinonee Memorial Hall, Wallamba CWA these days.
What was the highlight of 2017 for you?
Highlight of 2017 was being awarded Myall Lakes 2017 Citizen of the Year and receiving it from NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian in October.
