Sorry my news wasn’t in last week’s edition. John and I weren’t sure if we would have been home in time from Queensland, and the editorial staff said space was tight, so we gave it a miss. The last couple of weeks have been busy.

Tinonee Red Cross
The branch’s final meeting of the year was on November 28, but I couldn’t attend as I had an appointment in Forster. So thanks to president Judy who filled in and took the minutes.
The ladies made plans to attend the combined Tinonee Friendship and Red Cross Christmas morning tea at the Hall on December 6, before going to Tinonee Public School where they were entertained by some very talented students and the school band under the baton of Roger Griffiths.
The students all looked great in school uniforms with Santa hats and the dance group dazzled. The teachers are to be congratulated on the efforts of their students. After the presentation Judy Cluss made a small thank you donation, on behalf of the Friendship Group, to principal Nigel Sherrard. Then many attendees headed to Taree’s Red Dove Café, for a Christmas luncheon.
Six members represented the branch at Mount George Red Cross’s Christmas luncheon on December 12. Both the branch and friendship groups go into recess until February 2018, and take this opportunity to wish all Season’s Greetings.
Tinonee Historical Society
Eleven members attended the Historical Society’s final meeting for 2017 on November 30, and it was great to get the news the restoration on the red phone box is complete and it’s now back at the museum.
The museum will remain open until December 22, and will close from then until January 9, for members to have a well earned break. Member Lois has completed her book on Ships from Yesteryear and it will go to the printers in the New Year – it looks great.
WAG-APEX waterfall unveiling
WAG president Allen Valentine and his fellow members were pleased with the attendance at the official unveiling of the new water feature on the Isabella and Winter streets corner of Central Park, Wingham, on November 30.
Allen spoke of the original waterfall which the Wingham Apex members constructed in 1972, and maintained until the service organisation closed. It has been a labour of love by WAG members. Midcoast Council mayor David West and Allen unveiled the new plaque as the water cascade was turned on. Former Apex members and wives of deceased members were on hand, and lots of photos were taken.
