All has been quiet on the bridge and pool front since it was announced in June that the preferred option was endorsed by MidCoast Council for replacement of the bridge and pool.
We contacted council to find out what the current state of affairs was.
“We are continuing with the process to develop a detailed design of the bridge replacement and associated road works. To this end we have recently had a detailed survey of the area conducted and are commencing with detailed geotechnical assessment this week,” council’s manager –projects and enginnering, Rhett Pattison said.
“We do not have any approval of a construction grant at this stage. We have been advised that the State government should be accepting grant applications from February 2018.
“Wingham Memorial Swimming Pool will remain unaffected until such time that grant funds are approved. Once funding is secured, it remains the plan to relocate the pool in the off season. This means that one swimming season the pool will be in its current location, the following season it will be in its new location.
“Discussion regarding potential new sites are progressing,” Mr Pattison said.
