The return journey was via Canada then Los Angeles and on to Honolulu before touching down on Aussie soil and home to Wingham.
Whilst in Bangkok for a two night stay - her first break - Monica visited the Royal Palace and temples with so much gold everywhere and viewed Queen Sirikit’s elaborate clothing.
Next stop was a five night stop over in India where a memorable visit was made to Agra, to see the white marble Taj Mahal, then on to Delhi and Goa on the coast where Monica had two nights.
Flying out from Delhi next stop was Dubai for two nights.
Monica said Dubai is very clean with little history as such but very rich (thanks to the oil) then it was onto Heathrow Airport, UK where she was met by her niece and brother-in-law who took her to their home in Battle, near Hastings East Sussex which has centuries of history, castles etc.
Here Monica stayed and toured the various counties nearby going on to Kettering for a family get together of sister, nieces and nephews.
From there it was onto Bristol, and Cornwall where she stayed at the famous ‘Jamaica Inn’ in the middle of Bodmin Moor which was made famous by writer Daphne de Maurier, for two nights and even got to try “doing time in the stocks there.”
Monica loved Devon, staying in all the old places such as pubs and enjoyed the cuisine served in them.
Moving on she and family members travelled around Dorset for more birthday party times with family.
The homeward bound journey took Monica to Canada where she viewed the Niagara Falls via a six passenger helicopter which gave a fabulous view of the falls and then she took the boat trip on the lake and close up look at the falls.
Two nights in Canada before heading off to Los Angles where Monica was to have her only misadventure, when she had her purse stolen at Macy’s Department Store and never had it returned.
The last leg before reaching home was a trip to Honolulu and Monica wasn’t overly impressed with it, felt is was a cheaper version of our own Surfer’s Paradise.
All too soon it was homeward bound to Sydney and the end of a wonderful and adventurous holiday.
This trip was a long held dream of Monica and her late husband Tom. The planning started four years ago for a 2016 trip but it wasn’t to be due to Tom’s failing health and subsequent passing earlier this year.
