Wingham's Activation Blitz Weekend is fast approaching and there will be plenty for everyone to be take part in.
It’s all happening in town on the weekend of Friday June 23 to Sunday June 25 – that’s the weekend that the physical creation of some of the ideas that came out of the Place Making Project workshops begins.
Lantern walk
The weekend kicks off on Friday night with a Lantern Walk, hosted by the Manning River Turtle Conservation Group.
The Lantern Tour will begin at dusk with a lantern craft making activity before you walk from the river and through the Brush to finish up back at Central Park. Expect to hear about the endangered Manning River Turtle, and the unique flora and fauna throughout the Brush.
This initiative was one of the ideas that came out of the Wingham place making community workshop and will definitely lead to bigger things.
The Lantern Tour will be leaving the jetty at 5pm. Meet at 4pm for the lantern making activity (or take your own – no naked flames please) and to celebrate the winter solstice.
For more information visit the Facebook event page at goo.gl/XtZ1Nk.
Isabella Street activations
Isabella Street will be the hub for all of the activations and working bees on Saturday June 24. Kick the day off with a Rotary barbecue at 10am in Central Park. From here you can get involved in a project and watch it come to life.
- Planter Boxes – greening up Isabella Street with planter boxes, who is in? Lend a hand and be sure to bring your gardening gloves and protective shoes.
- Busking – enjoy the local sounds between 11am and 3pm.
- DIY noticeboard – share your ideas which will help inform the construction of a permanent noticeboard to be built by a local carpenter.
- Pop-up test seating – test potential seating locations using movable straw bales. Later on these locations will help inform the construction of more permanent seats built by a local carpenter.
Pop up cinema
A free movie night is taking place at St Joseph’s Primary School Hall Saturday June 24.
Kicking off at 6pm, there will be some popcorn, sweet goodies and Pete's Dragon - one of the top 100 all age movies, which means everyone is invited.
Make this your Saturday night family, girls, mates, friends catchup.

Like drawing? Or want to draw better? This one hour walking class through Wingham will give you techniques for how to capture nature, buildings and people on paper. It’s also a great opportunity to see Wingham in a different light and meet other locals.
Meet at the log in Central Park at 11am on Sunday June 25. The tour will be led by Mykel Carlier, a local painter and new-media artist with 20 years’ experience.
