Their aim is to make the area more user friendly for the SUV and caravan overnighters, and the local community who regularly use the boat ramp, barbecues and associated picnic areas.
Overnighters love the fact that the community welcomes them to such a beautiful, serene location almost in the heart of heritage Wingham – particularly as it is for free.
WAG members are frequently told by the visitors there are very few places like this anywhere in Australia, particularly as one of the WAG members, usually Ron Sky, welcomes them with stories of the area and information about the town – what's on, where to eat and shop, and the best sights to see. Maps and brochures are handed out as well as details of the best drives in the area.
In return for this free camp they help the businesses by spending money and getting to know the town so that they can pass on information to fellow travellers. They also help keep the area free of rubbish.
WAG, Rotary, the Wingham Chamber of Commerce and the community agree that if the foreshore were to be upgraded, it would be an even more enjoyable experience for all concerned.
The NSW government is making available funding through the Stronger Communities Fund for projects such as this to compensate communities where council amalgamations have taken place and Rotary and WAG are trusting that our application will be viewed favourably.
Applicants will be informed by the end of July the result of the application.
