Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead lauded Ms Carrier’s contribution to the region when presenting her the award while at Club Taree during the Myall Lakes Seniors Festival Concert on Tuesday, March 14.
The NSW Women of the Year Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution women across NSW make to their local communities, business and the state.
Six state-wide awards are presented, while each MP is granted the chance to single out one woman from their electorate for special mention.
“It was my absolute pleasure to this year present the Myall Lakes Local Woman of the Year award to Donna Carrier,” Mr Bromhead said.
“Some may recognise Donna from her wonderful, multi-award winning business Bent on Food Café and Regional Produce Store or Bent on Life or perhaps her Bent on Food Cookery School.
“What some may not know about Donna or the business is that that little café in Wingham has been nominated for, or won, dozens and dozens of awards in the past decade.
“Her first was back in 2006 when she was presented an accolade at the North Coast Tourism Awards – her most recent, and quite possibly the most significant, was being named 2016 Restaurant and Catering’s ‘Best Regional Café in NSW’.
“She’s won a slew of other tremendous awards including the NSW and ACT Small Business Awards’ ‘Best Regional Business’.
“People come from far and wide to visit beautiful Wingham and to drop in to Bent on Food.
“Donna is a true treasure and asset for the region and I was thoroughly pleased to present this small token to her for all the hard work she’s done in promoting the Myall Lakes,” Mr Bromhead said.
