A Talented Mix of Local Songwriters at the MEC

AKOOSTIK presents North Coast Songwriters was a unique opportunity to see some of the north coast's most successful performers in an intimate musical setting at the Manning Entertainment centre last Thursday evening.

The music loving crowd were rewarded with a rich diversity of sound, and witnessed the birth of a new band - The Girl Folder!

The lineup included local musician Matt Zarb, alongside Bill Roberts from Port Macquarie, Bec Willis of Gloucester, Mojo Bluesman, and bands The Last Train and Up In Annie's Room.

With each artist presenting three or four songs, the event was a taster for the Wingham Akoostik Festival, being held from October 17 to 19.

The celebration and promotion of original music is at the heart of the festival's philosophy, and event coordinators Kevin and Donna Ballard said they were thrilled with the interest this intimate gig generated.

"The Foyer Bar at the MEC is a perfect space for nights like this, we really appreciate the support we received from Jeremy Miller, Helen Knight, Chris Tippett, and Matt Woodward who worked for days setting up their brilliant stage, sound and lighting system for the night, " Donna said.

Tickets to the Wingham Akoostik Festival are now on sale at earlybird prices at two local outlets Bent On Life in Wingham and Movies Games and More, Taree.

Earlybird tickets are moving quick this year with James Reyne headlining the festival, so don't leave it too late, advises Donna.
