Champ: Wingham High student Daniel Stocks was featured as the Sports Star of the Week in the Manning River Times yesterday. The reason? Daniel only took up tumbling last year - now he's the Australian under 17 short track champion. The 15-year-old gymaroo clinched the title at the Australian Gymnastic championships held at Melbourne.
Footpaths: Council will assess the effectiveness of a trial in Victoria Street, Taree to improve the shopping experience for visitors. Part of the trial includes a new approach to how Council views the rules and regulations involved with activities on council’s road reserve including the footpath area. Council will assess the effectiveness of the trial in coming months and will then consider if the trial can be extended to further locations.
Record: To help a fellow bowler break a Guinness World Record, Wingham Bowling Club player Peter Holden played a special game on Friday. Peter played against 71-year-old Daylesford bowler Frank Peniguel making Wingham Bowling Club the 275th club on his tour.
State? At the time of writing Wingham Bowling Club was still waiting word on whether their number five pennant side had qualified for the State playoffs in August. Wingham finished runner up to Greta Workers in the Six final but Greta has since been disqualified for fielding two ineligible players. Greta has appealed to the NSW Bowling Association board and as yet no decision has been announced.
