MICHAEL and Georgina Saunders of Bunya Grove stud exhibited their Lowline bull “Tralin Zanzibar” (locally bred by Pauleen Spackman) at the Hawkesbury Show last weekend.
After having a successful few months competing in the Mid North Coast show circuit, they decided to try their luck against a larger contingency of quality Lowline and other small breeds to see how their beef measured up.
With huge grins owners Mick and Georgina couldn’t believe their bull won Champion Junior Bull and then took on the two senior Royal Sydney and Royal Melbourne show winners to win Supreme Champion bull.
To top off a very successful show, Tralin Zanzibar also received a high recommendation and the Reserve Champion Interbreed title.
“We are very passionate about our Lowline cattle and believe they are sometimes under estimated as high quality/ high yielding beef producers” Michael said.
Australian Lowline cattle are small and beefy Angus – derived cattle, scientifically developed in Australia for low birth-weights, stocky bodies, early maturity, a high dressing-out ratio and high quality cuts.
Lowlines and Lowline-x have better stocking rates then bigger cattle and excellent feed efficiency.
With their placid and friendly disposition they are perfect for women, children and older people to work with. (Australian Lowline Cattle Association).
