There will be no closures on weekends and closures will be weather-permitting.
The works will involve the construction of a 100m-long segment of concrete pavement, approximately 1.5km south of the Caparra-Bobin Road. The works have been identified to help minimise road damage following periods of wet weather and localised flooding. The works will also include slope stabilisation and traffic guidance improvements.
Given the narrow and steep nature of the site, as well as the close proximity of the adjacent waterway, a closure was deemed the only safe and financially viable option available to complete the work.
Following consultation with members of the local community last month, Caparra Road will be closed only periodically in order for the works to be undertaken. Council considered that the option of a long-term permanent closure during the works period would have an unacceptable impact on the local community. So that the road can be re-opened each weekday after 4pm, council will be utilising specialised concrete materials and construction techniques.
Works have also been scheduled to ensure no disruption to current bus and garbage collection services. Postal services will however, be affected, with residents advised to collect mail from the Wingham Post Office during the closure period.
If you have any queries regarding the works, please contact council’s customer service centre on 6592 5399 or e-mail gtaree@gtcc.nsw.gov.au
