Artisans Expo weekend

EXPERIENCE a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Australia's best artisans.

They will be demonstrating their skills, answering questions and even running workshops at the 2014 Artisans Expo at Mondrook on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Get hands-on and also meet specialty providers who supply hard-to-get tools and consumables for your craft.

Artisans Expo is ideal for schools, clubs, groups and anyone interested in seeing skilled artisans in action. You also have the opportunity to purchase finished pieces, equipment and consumables.

Where else can you chat to a Luthier (guitar maker), working beside a glass blower, wood turner, blacksmith, jewellery maker, fan carver, furniture restorer and many more - all in the one place at the one time? It is a great resource for students doing any of the TAS or art subjects!

Jim Frazier, acclaimed cinematographer will also be there with his Lepidoptera and Crystal Art exhibitions.

While developing the concept of Artisans On The Hill as a gallery, coffee lounge, bed and breakfast and craft teaching facility, it was always in Peter and Christine Calabria's minds to bring together some of Australia's best talent for an event.

The first Artisans Expo was organised at short notice in February 2011 (when Newcastle Wood Show was cancelled) and attracted around 500 visitors.

More than 2000 visitors are expected in 2014 from as far as Victoria as there is no other event like it in Australia.

The expo will be held from 10am to 4pm this Friday and Saturday, and from 10am to 2pm on Sunday. Venue is Artisans on the Hill, 702 Tinonee Road, Mondrook, between Wingham and Tinonee.

Additionally a glass blowing workshop will be held on Monday February 24 and there will be a furniture making weekend March 22 and 23.

Entry to this weekend's expo is $5 per person daily, assisting the Taree Rescue Squad. Group, bus and coach facilities are available.

Schools and groups should contact Peter or Christine at Artisans On The Hill on 6553 1199 to organise arrival time and group payment, or just to get more information.
