Monica Stone 74 has been a regular at the club for more than 20 years and regularly dines with husband Tom 88 on a Wednesday. Busy talking when the announcement was made, Monica nearly missed the moment. But club supervisor that night, Margaret Katsoolis was not about to let such important news go unnoticed and she managed to catch Monica's attention. "I thought I was going to hit the ceiling," said Monica of hearing she had won. "It is so exciting," she said.
Ten clubs take part in the Superdraw and each host club is picked at random. It was a busy night at the services club last Wednesday and the club's assistant manager Nicole Mullen estimates that 150 people were there that night. "It couldn't have gone to a better person," said Nicole. "If anyone deserved to win, it was Monica."
From all accounts a great night was had by all and Monica shared the merriment by shouting a round at the bar. "It was really exciting and we had a wonderful night," she said.
Husband Tom was stunned by the win and Monica said he was very quiet and simply gave his wife a big hug. With plenty of jobs to do around the farm Monica said it's not hard to know what the money will be spent on.
The official 'big cheque' presentation took place yesterday at the club and Monica and Tom can now start making plans for the farm.
