After the Australian flag was raised by members of First Wingham Scout Group, there was a welcome by Deputy Mayor Cr Robyn Jenkins and a prayer with Reverend Darrell McKeough. Australia Day addresses were heard from local students: Wingham High School captain Eddi Raglus and Wingham Public School captain Nash McPherson.
Wingham Rotary Club also announced the recipients of the 2014 Rotary Awards:
Pride in Workmanship - Kevin and Wendy Bakewell of Bakewell Haulage
Sports Person of the Year - Luke Bailey
Young Achiever of the Year (two awards given) - Joel Hedge and Eddi Raglus
Special Award for Service to our Community - Don Forbes
Citizen of the Year - Norm and Marie Hatchwell
Jillian Dunn sang the National Anthem and Let there be Peace on Earth after which Eric Richardson gave his closing remarks.
With good weather conditions, a little cooler than previous years, those that attended were able to enjoy the program comfortably. Members of Rotary provided refreshments with a barbecue and the sweet delights of Cocky's Joy (bread with golden or maple syrup).
