Australia Day provides us with a great opportunity to acknowledge all the wonderful things that make our nation so great and spend time doing some of the things we love and enjoy – such as spending time with family and friends and experiencing the great outdoors - including our beautiful Mid-North Coast region.

As our nation continues to develop, our abilities, and our innovative and entrepreneurial spirit continues to grow - delivering greater prosperity and confidence in our future.
In recent years - Australia Day appears to have become bigger and better - as we celebrate what it means to be Australian.
In reflecting on our long history, our diverse cultural heritage and our nation’s achievements, we should acknowledge:
* Our indigenous brothers and sisters - the traditional custodians of our great nation;
* The European settlers who helped shape the cities, towns and primary producing regions across this vast continent;
* The new Australians of the past few decades who’ve brought depth to our diversity;
* And of course our service men and women who have continued to defend the many freedoms we enjoy, too often taken for granted
To the many volunteers of our community organisations and our emergency service personnel – Australia Day is also an appropriate day to once again say thank you.
Finally to our new citizens – welcome. I am sure you know how lucky we are to be Australians and we look forward to your contribution to our great nation.
