At the December AGM of Rotary the decision was made to concentrate on other projects due to the difficulty in the economy and uncertainity for future commitment from business houses.
Organisers said it was a hard decision but "one we had to make due to costs in organising such an event."
Rotary will continue having fund raising events to support the community with events on a smaller scale.
Also at the meeting a new board of directors were elected ready for the changeover of directors held in June each year.
The incoming executors will be, president: Ron Hindmarsh, vice president: Dave Sullings, secretary: Bob Clarke, assistant: John Dorrington, treasurer: Lawrie Ayres, assistant: Carolyn Wiseman. Club members will now be approached to fullfill directorship in other portfolios, and congratulations given to the members elected.
Wingham Rotary's public speaking competition representative is Joel Hedge, captain of Wingham High School. In February, Joel will be competing against other speakers representing clubs from as far away as Coonabarrabran.
This is just one of many programs Rotary organises to promote citizenship and leadership in youth from our community.
Persons from Wingham who are community minded, have a background in management and believe they can contribute to Rotary through membership, please contact secretary Allan Brown 6553 5813 and/or speak with a Rotarian on Australia Day.
