Well it is back into the routine again and I trust all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
I had a very quiet festive season and like most had a battle to keep cool with the excessive hot days we have experienced. But then it is summer and we live in Australia – the best country in the world.
Most organisations are still in recess until February, however the Tinonee Historical Society’s Museum is open and welcomes visitors on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 2pm and Saturdays from 12.30pm until 3.30pm.
If you haven’t been to see our great displays yet, pop in and have a look. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children younger than 12 years.
Birthdays
A number of local identities have been celebrating special milestone birthdays since the start of 2019.
Firstly hearty congratulations and happy birthday to Mary Gollan of Mondrook, who turned the big 90 on January 2. I believe there was a small gathering of family and friends at the property of grandson Brian Burney. Hope it was a memorable day for you Mary, and may you have many more with lots of love from daughters Diane and family, and Lyn and family.
Gary Ladmore of Mondrook celebrates his 70th birthday today, Wednesday January 9, but kicked it off with a birthday bash at Mondrook Hall on Saturday, January 5, with about 60 family and friends who gathered to help mark the big event.
Not only was Gary’s birthday celebrated, but it was also Gary and wife Cheryl’s 34th wedding anniversary on January 5. And would you believe the fifth was cause for a third celebration as it was Gary’s brother Graham’s birthday.
The afternoon was a warm one and guests enjoyed the outside area of the hall with nibbles and drinks followed by a barbecue dinner before proceedings moved into the hall where a Powerpoint presentation showed the highlights of Gary’s life – put together with Cheryl’s help, before a huge bouquet of flowers was presented to Cheryl by Gary.
It was then time to cut the birthday cake. Wife Cheryl had made and iced the cake with stars and a brick wall with trowel and cement, representing Gary’s trade in life – bricklayer - from which he has only recently retired.
There was lots of happy chatter and photographs taken during the evening and it was great to catch up with former Tinonee residents Greg and Mary Eastlake, now living in the Newcastle area, along with some of the Mondrook locals.
Another birthday also celebrated today, Wednesday January 9, is that of a very special lady and dear friend Nellie Hensing of Tinonee.
To Nellie love and best wishes come from your family locally, and in Sydney, together with John and I, who wish you all the best and many more to come.
