Youth Frontiers is a state-wide mentoring program that encourages young people in years eight and nine to use their creativity, passion and determination to make a positive difference in their local community.
Mr Bromhead said the Youth Frontiers program helps unlock the potential of young people.
“Youth Frontiers encourages young people to think outside the box, try different ideas and have the courage to speak up for what they believe in,” Mr Bromhead said.
“Congratulations to Georgia on getting involved and for winning the Environment and Conservation award.”
Georgia was nominated for her ‘Seeds and Song’ community event that hosted a range of environmental themed activities.
“Youth Frontiers has been a rewarding experience. The sense of fulfilment I have achieved through having an idea and being able to bring this to life, by working with new people and forming new relationships, is something I was not expecting,” Georgia said.
Minister responsible for Youth, Ray Williams, announced $6.3 million in funding to continue the program for the next three years from 2018 to 2020.
“Youth Frontiers is one of the largest mentoring programs in the entire country. The additional funding will ensure another 1,200 young people across the State will benefit from this valuable program each year,” Mr Williams said.
Since 2015, Youth Frontiers has connected around 3,500 young people with their communities through quality mentoring.
There are eight categories for the community project including Community Harmony, Youth Mental Health, Engaging in Sport, Empowering Young Women, The Centenary of ANZAC, Environment and Conservation, Group Projects, and a General category.
