“The great thing is our wines are fantastic,” Mark Smith, co-owner of the Wingham’s new vineyard Jacaranda Estate said last week.
Four years in the making and Mark and his wife Belinda could only trust their instincts that grapes grown in Wingham would produce wine that tastes good.
Mark credits their viticulture techniques and using a “great winemaker” for the hoped for results.
The cellar door of Jacaranda Estate will open on December 1 when locally invited business owners will have the first chance to celebrate before the estate opens to the public officially on December 2.
It’s been a long haul for Mark and Belinda who are still putting the final touches on the bar area in preparation of serving their wine to the people of Wingham.
In February the estate harvested 2.5 tonnes of grapes which were hand basket pressed on site using 100-year-old presses and delivered to wine maker Will Rickard-Bell at Chill Wine Co in Orange.
“It’s been a great journey so far,” said Mark.

Jacaranda Estate takes its name from the two magnificent old Jacarandas at the front gate and is located on Appletree Street.
Mark and Belinda purchased the property in January 2014.
Since then they have developed the Jacaranda Estate vinegarden to include Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines along with many fruit and nut trees and exotics.
There are also bordered garden rooms and a native rainforest along the banks of Cedar Party Creek.
The one acre vineyard of 1250 vines was established in early 2015 from two year old grafted vines.
“We’re surprised by the enthusiasm shown by the locals,” said Mark who relocated from Sydney for the new venture.
Locals have embraced the concept of their very own vineyard with the Wingham Chamber of Commerce holding a special evening on the estate last Wednesday.
The new building on the estate will serve as a cellar door for wine tastings and sales and is expected to open to the public from noon – 3pm Monday through to Thursday and noon-6pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
