Local indigenous dance group Waang-djarii will perform Welcome to Country on Friday night and they will also take a spot on the stage on Saturday night.
Headliners for this year’s festival are Akoostik regular Bill Chamber’s daughter Kasey Chambers, ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Russell Morris (of ‘The Real Thing’ fame), and the Eurogliders.
Sunday sees Dom Turner return to the Akoostik stage for the third time.
For the past two years Dom has performed as one half of the Backsliders duo, with drummer Rob Hirst. With Rob otherwise occupied this year, Dom has formed the Turner Brown Band – a collaboration with US vocalist and lap-guitar player Nikki D Brown.
Ella Hooper, formerly of Killing Heidi, will also play on Sunday afternoon, with gypsy/reggae/dub band The Kava Kings closing the festival.
This year Akoostik organisers are joining the war on waste, supported by JR Richards and Sons.
Special bins will be provided for food waste, with the waste going to the Islands in the Stream commercial worm farm at Oxley Island.
Seeking to further reduce waste, collapsible refillable water bottles will be on sale, with a water-filling station provided.
And on what is usually a warm and sunny weekend, shade is always at a premium at Akoostik.
This year a shady installation is being constructed between the bar and the stages providing all-day dappled shade.
As in previous years, there will be a large variety of international food to eat, and a range of eclectic stalls.
Children have their own special area with plenty of activities, such as beading, rock painting and a large clay play area.
The Tea Rooms will be a must visit with Wingham High School providing a recycled art exhibition.
All parking is offsite this year with parking available at the end of Rouse Street before the festival gates.
A shuttle bus service is available click here for more information.
