Now she proudly tells the tale in her book Isabella the Play, the Story, the Script and the Cell Block Theatre being launched at the Wingham Museum on Saturday September 30 from 3.30pm.

A scene from Maggie’s popular play will be acted out by two members of the Wingham Community Theatre in front of the museum before historian Maurie Garland officially launches the book inside.

Kath Palmer and Alan Hughston will perform the proposal scene in  which Hentry Flett asks Isabella Mary Kelly for her hand in marriage.

“It was my favourite scene to write,” said Maggie.

Kath and Alan will dress up once again in period costume housed at the museum.

Maggie, however, has plans to tweak the script and inject contemporary references into the scene.

“Characters may make reference to the museum or even the vampire jet in Central Park,” said Maggie.

“I love doing stuff like that,” she added.

Maggie will have to check with Kath and Alan first though.

The pair know the original script by heart after performing to packed audiences in a number of venues across the region culminating in a performance in Sydney in April 2016.

Emcee for the event will be Manning Valley Historical Society’s Terry Tournoff who also played the Mayor in the play when it visited Mount George.

Terry and the historical society volunteers have created a window dedicated to Isabella to coincide with the book which will be for sale at the museum, thanks to the lovely Carol Pammer.

After the book is launched afternoon tea will be served.

It is Maggie’s first book, written as a thank you to the people of Wingham who supported the play with great enthusiasm.

Design and printing was kept local by Well Creative, who are based almost next door to the museum.

“It felt so appropriate to have the launch at the museum,” said Maggie.
