Shunning New York's go-to colour - black - Australian sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann introduced a kaleidoscope of hues, prints, ruffles, layers and detail inspired by " '60s and '70s sunny, beachside suburbs like Surfers Paradise" to a full house of It girls, media, influencers and models in New York.

There was a strong Australian contingent showing their support direct from the FROW including models Shanina Shaik, Bambi Northwood-Blyth, influencers Nadia Fairfax and Yan Yan Chan and former Home and Away star Demi Harman.

Other faces of note included Danish model Nina Agdal, Kiwi Annabella Barber, New Yorker Natalie Suarez and Italian influencer Valentina Ferragni.

One person notably absent was David Jones (a Zimmerman stockist) ambassador Jesinta Franklin, who was in the Big Apple but sat out the 11am show in Lower Manhattan on Monday.

She did turn up later in the week at the Coach spring 2018 runway - that was paved in glitter - alongside model Northwood-Blyth, Sydney fashion blogger Carmen Hamilton and actor Julia Roberts' niece, Emma Roberts.

It was high-profile show that also included the likes of Selena Gomez, James Franco, Anna Wintour and Charli XCX.

Away from the hustle and bustle of NYFW, it was a quieter week than most for socialites back in the Harbour City.

The standout event was the invite-only launch of the Le Marche des Merveilles jewellery collection in the Gucci flagship store at Westfield in the city on Wednesday evening, put together by EVH PR.

Singer Jessica Mauboy, model twins Jordan and Zac Stenmark and lifestyle influencer Kate Waterhouse turned out in their best designer clobber to raise a toast to the collection inspired by imaginative fairy tales with the feline head motif taking centre stage.

A harpist played as guests sipped on Italian prosecco and negronis and perused the glass-cased collection by Thai illustrator Phannapast Taychamaythakool.

???Indeed, his story is that of a fairy tale itself after being found on Instagram by Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele and commissioned to work with the global fashion house.

At the ASTRA Women in Television breakfast at The Star earlier in the week, Sigrid Thornton really caught the attention when she regaled the estimated 700 crowd - predominantly women - with the story of how she was arrested ... at age 13.

The Wentworth star was taken by police with her mother in 1972 for participating in an anti-Vietnam War protest in Brisbane.

Fifteen laters, the actor is still standing up for inclusivity and equality for women.

"We need to create a new generation of female leaders who behave like women," she said, speaking from the stage alongside Sky News Business presenter Ticky Fullerton.
