The event is also in celebration of Australia’s inaugural National Gardening Week which runs October 8-14, an initiative George Hoad, president of Anglican Care Auxiliary, Manning launched earlier this year in his role as president of The Garden Clubs of Australia.
“I’m delighted to be hosting the high tea in my garden, raising funds for a good cause and celebrating the simple joys of gardening”, said George.
George’s six-acre country garden is the perfect setting to host this event, given its size and quirky nature and features which include the Oriental Garden, the Potager, the Cottage Garden and the Woodland Walk.
Winchelsea Gardens has been featured on the Better Homes and Gardens television show and in their magazine, Burkes Backyard and Our Gardens magazine.
Attractions on the day include tasty delights and a bottomless cup of tea or coffee, lucky door prizes, a fundraising raffle, a quilt display by Harrington’s Pelican Pieces Patchwork and Quilting Group, artworks and several stalls including antiques and bric-a-brac.
Visitors are encouraged to dress for the occasion with a prize for the best spectacular spring hat.
A selection of local musicians and performers will entertain throughout the afternoon.
Proceeds from the day go to Anglican Care Auxiliary, Manning – raising awareness, funds and support for aged care in the Manning Valley.
Bookings are essential for catering purposes. Ring George on 6550 5890 or email ghoad@internode.on.net or Margaret Carey on 0448 561 110.
Tickets cost $25 per person or $10 for children under 12 available from Dan's Ladies' Wear, 36 Manning Street, Taree and Dress Up, 6/56 Isabella Street, Wingham.
Winchelsea Gardens is located at 52 Alfred Road, Killabakh, NSW - 18km from Wingham on the Comboyne Road. A large parking area is available with direct access to the garden.
Spring is a great time to enjoy the colour and fragrance of the garden and with the added bonus of delicious food, entertainment, a few stalls and more – a great day out is assured, said George.
