D Day is almost here! No, Mount George is not retreating from the banks of the Manning River as did the troops from Dunkirk. Sorry, I mean Derby Day.

That is Billy Cart Derby Day. We are not resurrecting the old horse racing track, either. Only three sleeps to go and there will be fun aplenty in the old town.
It promises to be a great, fun filled day as long as the magician doesn’t make any of the children disappear, or one of the billy carts take flight as it speeds down the track.
I am looking forward to lunch which I don’t have to cook from the barbecue, friendships re-kindled and praying none of my ex-students run over me when it is my turn to direct the parking of vehicles.
Please ask the weather god to be kind to us on Saturday. The weather has been so spring like in the past few weeks but his week began under grey skies and I remembered Jan Murray (as she was then), an ex-school principal, saying that if you need rain just get Mount George school to arrange a sports day or swimming lessons and it is sure to pour. I certainly hope that has changed over the years.
Come along and have a wonderful time. See the derby, visit the stalls at the markets and feel young again with the children and have lots of fun.
The Mount George Red Cross Club plans to hold a luncheon and games/fun afternoon on Tuesday, September 12 at the hall. All are invited to attend – not just Red Cross members – so if you have some spare time do come along and join us.
It will be great to see our friends from nearby branches once again. We’ve missed them since we began having our meetings at our members homes. The luncheon price is set at $12 and we will be sitting down at about 11.30am for a noon time meal.
Last Thursday night the Reserve Trust held a meeting and decided to hold another working bee at the reserve to begin repairs to the vandalised tennis clubhouse and toilet block. We will do more of the work we had planned last time we assembled there.
If you have an hour you can spare it would be appreciated if you brought along a few tools, your hat and gloves and joined us for a while as many hands make light work as we all know and we are trying to get things up and going to give the youth of the town something they are happy to use when we finish our plans for the whole recreation reserve.
More on this when we decided on a date as our planned date clashed with a school orientated activity to raise funds for the school camp so we decided to postpone our work day. Don’t worry, it will happen.
Things are happening at Caffreys Flat in preparation for the Longview Music Weekend to be held over the long weekend in October. There will be added attractions this year and more food stalls, heaps of well known bands in attendance to entertain you (day and night). All the regular features will still be there and if you love music, meeting people and having loads of fun there will not be a better place to spend your weekend holiday than there.
Don’t forget you can watch the rugby league grand final on the big, big screen into the bargain. I hope your team comes up trumps!
