Exhibitors came from near and far bringing a wide variety of breeds of poultry, both soft feather and hard feather, in both large fowl and bantams. A number of the birds had won major awards at recent 2017 poultry shows. The judges commented on the high quality and excellent preparation of the exhibits.
Judges were Grahame Sharpe (Soft Feather) and Brendan Sharpe (Hard Feather). Both father and son from Uralla are recognised top breeders, exhibitors and judges.
A feature of the show was the rare breeds with varieties recently imported into Australia and not shown before in Singleton. They included Sumatra, Redcap Derbyshire and Lakenvelder in large fowl and Phoenix in bantams. There are many others breeds recently imported and they are growing in popularity.
The show drew many local visitors who were impressed with the display of the fowls in the refurbished pens and their new layout in the pavilion. This provided for excellent lighting in all pens and wide aisles gave access for viewing.
Grand Final Bird of Show award went to Hudson & Brown (Fred Brown) with his Large Black Australorp Pullet. She was also Champion Large Soft Feather.
Reserve Champion Bird of Show went to Robert Johnstone with his Bantam Old English Game Duckwing dark leg cock bird. He was also Champion Hard Feather Bantam.
Reserve Champion Large Soft Feather also went to Hudson & Brown (Fred Brown) with his White Leghorn Cockerel.
