Ever since he was given a box brownie in the early 1970s Darren Harrison has been hooked on photography.
The 52-year-old lives on an organic farm in Elands (a 40 minute drive north-west of Wingham in the Manning Valley).
“I love landscapes, portraiture, wildlife and macro. I transitioned from analogue to digital around ten years ago after stubbornly staying with film for as long as possible – eventually I had to concede defeat.”

- Darren Harrison.
He has travelled Australia extensively and taken many thousands of shots from the Kimberly to the Cape.
“The challenge for me is to try to stay as authentic as possible to keep my photos honest. I try only to play with exposure to increase colour saturation and give some punch to the pic.”
Over the years he has been photographing the Akoostik music festival in Wingham.
“I have had the privilege of taking photos of some of our finest musicians: Bill Chambers, Rick Price, Grace Knight, Archie Roach, Jenny Morris and many more.”
He says as he gets older he is more inclined toward portraiture.
“I try my best to capture the essence of someone so to speak.
“That moment of just being themselves, uninhibited by the knowledge of being watched and photographed. That’s a challenge.”
