If you're a community group looking to undertake a project, you may be eligible for funding, so get your applications in now!
Opening on May 1, round two of the Stronger Community Grants Program has already attracted interest from a number of community groups for projects such as upgrading existing facilities, introducing new community services and funding for community infrastructure and equipment.
In this round $500,000 will be distributed, for projects ranging in value from $5,000 up to $50,000. All projects that fall within this budget range will be considered provided they meet the criteria for eligibility.
The funding will be awarded to community groups for projects that address an identified community need, and that deliver social, cultural, economic or environmental benefits to the community.
Successful applicants will be announced in late July 2017 and will need to complete their projects by the 31 December 2018.
Round one of the initiative, which was allocated in November last year, awarded 17 community projects funding, from 76 applications across the region. Cuddlepie Early Childhood Learning Centre, a not for profit early childhood centre, was just one of the community groups awarded $21,740 funding for their ‘Wood be Good’ project to refurbish the outdoor play areas of the premises. Work for this project commenced in early January 2017.
Boatsheds, community gardens, facility refurbishments, and exercise trails are just some of the fantastic initiatives that will come to life over the next 12 months.
“The first round of funding has resulted in a wide range of community improvement initiatives and I’m excited to see what the second round of applications will bring to our community,” Lyndie Hepple, MidCoast Council’s community development co-ordinator said.
These projects will improve infrastructure and services throughout the MidCoast Council region, as a result of the NSW Government funding for merged councils to facilitate a range of community-led initiatives.
