On Tuesday, May 25 the fences came down from around the Rotary exercise station in Central Park and it was open for the use of the community.
Early indications are that it will be well used – Valley Industries, who supplied the temporary fencing around the project as it was being constructed, hadn’t even finished pulling the fences down before people started trying out the equipment.
The honour of first person to try out the machines, though, goes to Valley Industries worker David Lambert, who took a few minutes out of his work day to test out one of the machines.
Ex-Taree Rotary Club member Ken Patterson was instrumental in getting the Rotary exercise station in Taree constructed, and when he moved his membership to the Wingham Rotary Club, he bought the idea with him.
Local Rotary members came on board and harnessed the support of the NSW State Government through Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead to receive the $30,000 funding needed to complete the project.
In December 2016 the club also circulated a petition which attracted 1500 signatures of support for the project.
