Wingham Beef Week keeps growing from strength to strength.
Wingham High School agriculture teacher and Beef Week organiser, Charlie Cassells reports there were “record numbers of everything this year”.
Exact numbers of the entrants were 386 students, 23 schools and 183 head of cattle lead and unlead.
“Basically we calculated numbers of cattle, schools and children were all up by 30 per cent this year,” Mr Cassells said.
“We had 55 unlead steers and probably only about 10 of those were schools; the rest were new producers who have decided to get behind the Beef Week banner,” Mr Cassells said.
“From a producer’s point of view not only are there some very attractive prizes but they also get that valuable carcass feedback information on the quality of their livestock and how their genetics have been going.”
I think where quality product is offered the word gets spread around, and anyone that has been there in previous years has never not come back.

A feature of this year’s events was the inaugural Charity Steer Auction, which made $4100 to go to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
Organisers wish to thank Mark Burke of Wagyu Exports, Scott Burley of Elders, Ridley’s Taree, Wingham Gourmet Meats, Wingham Beef Exports and Saville Refrigerated Transport in Taree for donation of their stock and services to make the Charity Steer Auction happen.
