Young Jerry Plains diary farmer, Shayne Gee, has achieved an outstanding result at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. In her first attempt she has taken out the coveted title of Champion Parader with Victorian couple Brad and Jessica Gavenlock’s heifer, Seaver Pin.

A heifer is a cow that has not borne a calf, or has borne only one calf. And, now she will represent New South Wales at the Royal Melbourne Show.
The 17-year-old has been parading and showing diary cows for three years but mainly at local events, like the Singleton Show.
So this competition was a real step in class for the talented young lady, especially considering her own heifer wasn’t ready for the big occasion.
“It did get a bit stressful with so many people around and having them all watch you,” Shayne says.
“The competition was really tough, there was a good line up - I really didn’t expect to win.”
But she did and is excited about heading to Melbourne in September where she hopes to once again parade, Seaver Pin.
Prior to the Sydney Royal, Shayne had worked with the heifer before and was quietly confident about her chances.
“I was pretty confident as I knew her and how to improve her,” she explains.
Although Shayne says it is all about setting the heifer up so she looks good which requires patience.
“You need to stay calm and show the judges you can respond to the animal – you need to work as a team.”
She currently works full-time on the family farm and is keen start her own breeding program after purchasing some stud cattle.
