Farewell Harry Wheeler
Family and friends, including many of the Manning Filipino community, gathered at Manning Great Lakes Memorial Gardens to farewell Harry Roper Wheeler, who passed away March 17, six months short of his 100 birthday. The service was conducted by Becker Funerals with celebrant Cathy Keech on March 23.
Harry was born in India to English parents in September 1917, and made his way to Australia when he was just 21 years of age. He worked in Queensland before settling in the Wollongong area where he operated his own business until his retirement.
He and his first wife had three daughters who were all at the funeral to pay tribute to their dad. With the passing of his first wife, Harry married Beatriz and they settled in Tinonee.
Tinonee Historical Society Meeting
President Jenny and members of the Tinonee Historical Society welcomed patron Carolyn Fazio to the March meeting. Carolyn was impressed with the work members had been doing during the 13 years since she generously purchased the premises at 32 Manchester Street. The society currently has a DA at council to erect a display shed, workshop and storage. All hope permission is granted to continue with the project.
Members said their farewells to Carolyn who returns to the USA this week after her five weeks visit here.
