Women from five regional zones throughout NSW played in the country championships, which was won by the Hunter team on the 17th consecutive occasion.

The Women’s Mid North Coast Rugby Union Representative Team entered their first championships aligned with intensive training and dedication over the last six months and featured on the team a representative from Wingham, Annie Taylor.

Annie from a young age had a profound interest in sport and previously played netball competitively and followed the sport of rugby union closely.

Annie got involved in rugby union through her association with the Old Bar Clams rugby union team last year by assisting with strapping injuries and running water for the team.

From this experience Annie decided to play competitively and signed up with the Women’s Mid North Coast Rugby Union Representative Team on a sole basis from Wingham and has trained with the squad in Wauchope every Sunday, since September 2016.

Although inexperienced and the only representative from Wingham, Annie performed solidly in all four matches in the NSW Country Women’s Rugby Union Championships and started the day as a winger in the 14—12 win over Central North and finished the fourth match of the day as a forward flanker where speed and 100 per cent commitment, were two of the main aspects of her set up.

Annie enjoyed the experience of playing with experienced players in the NSW Country Women’s Rugby Union Championships and intends to push on in her rugby union representative career.

The future is bright for this Wingham local in the rugby union arena.
