A former resident of both Tinonee and Forster for some years, Florence Winifred Brackenreg, was farewelled by family and friends at St Luke’s Anglican Church Tinonee, Friday, March 17, at 10am.
Flo, as she was affectionately known, was much loved and admired by her extended family of six children, 22 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Flo was born at Boggabri on November 5, 1926. She passed away peacefully at Newcastle on Tuesday, March 14, at the grand age of 90.
Son David, of Bathurst, presented a comprehensive eulogy of his mum’s life and this was followed by grandson Evan Read’s memories of a special lady in his life. Flo’s funeral service was conducted by Reverend Brian Ford and she was interred at the Tuncurry Lawn Cemetery. Mourners later gathered at Greenmount Gardens.
St Patrick’s Day
After the rain the night before, Tinonee and District Red Cross were blessed with a fine and sunny, albeit humid, day for the annual St Patrick’s Day Luncheon at Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall on Thursday, March 16.
Thirty one guests from Mt George, Taree, and Wingham Red Cross branches, Wingham CWA and St Matthew’s Ladies Guild Wingham joined several locals and Tinonee members for the meal and entertainment. The hall was decorated in Ireland’s Flag colours of Green, Orange and white and most of the guests were wearing a touch of green.
Peter Manewell of Mt George entertained with his piano accordian and had guests singing along at times to some of the well known tunes. Mt George Red Cross member Kitty Tisdell even gave us a fine tune on Peter’s instrument much to the delight of all.
Noreida Fotheringham of Wingham Red Cross won a ladies green handbag and Elaine Crossman of Tinonee, took home the meat tray from the raffle.
Funds raised from the day will be forwarded to 2017 Red Cross Calling and the Disaster Appeal.
Rain, rain, and more rain
Everyone has been thankful for the glorious rain which has fallen over recent days but now would like a few sunny days. The rivers and dams are full and should make for a great winter season.
