The Wingham Town Hall will benefit from funding received from the NSW Government.

MidCoast Council was awarded $8954 for the town hall as part of the Community War Memorial Fund (CWMF) to help conserve and protect war memorials in local communities.

Additionally council was awarded $7581 for the Taree War Memorial Clock in Fotheringham Park.

The Manning Valley projects are two of  24 projects across the state that received the funding.

The fund will invest $125,000 through grants up to $10,000 for the protection and conservation of war memorials, including statues, memorial gates, halls and honour rolls.

“Communities all over NSW have applied for these grants and it is with great pleasure that I can award funding to 24 projects,” Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott said.

“These memorials act as a place of reflection and a reminder of the Anzac spirit.”

Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead said there is a strong Anzac spirit in the local area driven by residents.

“Communities have an obligation to educate the next generation about the Anzac legacy and ensure their sacrifice is not forgotten,” he said.

“Receiving funding to put toward these projects is a fantastic reward.

“They have been chosen for funding for a number of reasons including their ability to support the NSW veteran community,” Mr Bromhead said.

The CWMF grants are part of the first round of the 2016/2017 CWMF. They were recommended for funding by the State War Memorials Committee.
